Sam Adams Noble Pils

Seasonal beers being released in January are few and far between, especially while winter brews are in full swing. The Boston Beer Co. has decided that at the end of this month winter is old news and it's time to starting thinking spring. Samuel Adams Noble Pils is a new brew to bridge that winter-summer gap, which in some cases is a dead-zone in the beer calendar. In all honesty, we here at Portlandtaps.com are helping Sam Adams launch this beer at our new monthly event, Third Thursdays held tonight(Jan 21st) at Brian Boru's. Before you all head out and spend your hard earned dollars on a new beer, we probably ought to have some info for you all before you come out tonight.

This is a pilsner, which means it's in the lager family of beer and is very light yellow in color. One thing that separates pilsner from other style lagers are it's use of noble hops and the Noble Pils uses all 5 of the noble hop varieties (4 listed on Wikipedia). This actually creates a nice taste for this beer. The Noble Pils has a really good "beer taste", which to me means it has that beer taste that you probably remember from your youngest beer experience. This is a very clean drinking beer and has a very crisp carbonation. What I like most about this beer was it ease to drink (trying not to use drinkability) and it's clean finish. There is a very good pilsner taste and will put Budweiser to shame (the other pilsner you've probably had). What did I not like? If you are die hard craft beer person, this will not blow your socks off. It's a beer that is meant to sit side by side with all the other standard fare micros so it does not have that exotic flare either. I could go on and on about how I prefer this over one beer, or that I would order some other over this brew but tonight, 8pm - 11pm at Brian Boru, we'll be helping launch this beer and you can try it yourself for $3 a glass. Portlandtaps.com will be there and you can expect free glasses
