About Porlandtaps.com

Welcome to Portlandtaps.com! This site is aimed directly at the people of Maine, most specifically the people in Portland, Maine who enjoy beer and enjoy happy hour beer. It's design is to get you the information about the beers you drink, and the best price to pay, and exactly how to get to the bar you've chosen. From us at Portlandtaps.com CHEERS! and be safe out there!

Who are you, and where did you come from?  (top)
Woah, a little forward aren't you? Well, simply put, we are three guys from Maine and we love beer. We starting Portlandtaps.com when we were tired of walking into downtown Portland and not knowing where we should go next or what was on draft and if anything new out, etc. There was no reason why a site like ours shouldn't exist and it surprised us that it didn't already. From there we started our journey, tracking down every tap list and every happy hour. We crossed referenced, linked and drank our way through the construction of our fine site, and then, one day, viola! Portlandtaps.com was alive. So covering the Old Port, Munjoy Hill, the West End and right on Congress St. in town, Portland now has a reference for all the beer lovers out there.

Okay, so I like beer, how is this site going to help me?  (top)
Easy answer, anyone who likes beer, likes cheap beer, with the goal to get as close to $0 as possible, endlessly searching out the best deal, then bragging about it. We wanted to put all the bars in Portland and around Maine in one place, promoting who they are, where they are and most important their prices and specials. So if you're just getting thirsty reading this, then the site is for you and you will find the information here useful.

So you're saying that we're all going to be drinking at the cheapest place in town?  (top)
No, in fact, I think that having an idea of what a bar charges you can get an idea of what to expect. When we set out to get the tap lists and the tap prices of every bar, we decided that info should be available and the user can decide what to use it for. Prices may help turn someone on to a new bar and get them a new favorite place to hang out. One might find beers they hadn't otherwise thought about having if they can find a place that happens to have it at a price they will accept. No matter how you use this site, the info is there and you can choose to do with it what you will.

What is this fine tool going to cost me eh? there has to be a catch  (top)
Well, no catch really. We setup this site initially for out own selfish reasons, those being cheap beer all over town. We soon came to the conclusion that there is a common goal amongst our brethren and that is the conquest for good happy hours, good places to hang out and drink beer, and a reason to get out of the house most nights of the week. So while we think that many people will enjoy this, it has to be free to all users, and it will be free to all users. Our only hope is that we get enough attention to be recognized as pillars in the bar hopping establishment.

Okay, you say it's free, and I see ads on the site, so you're making money?  (top)
Well, design, programming, and hosting aren't free, so there is an ulterior motive to use the hopeful popularity of the site to make money, so yes, we aren't some altruistic group dead-set on cheap beer. This site has some potential for us, and that will help the site stay free, relevant and accurate.
